Nusa Penida is a beautiful island where you can not only find amazing white sand beaches but also 200-meter high cliff drops, landscapes and natural wonders. However, is Nusa Penida worth visiting?
Check out this video:
In short, Nusa Penida is the largest of the three Nusa Islands just 30 min. by boat from the mainland Bali. This paradise is located off the east coast of Bali.

How to get to Nusa Penida from Bali
In fact, only transportation is by sea using Speedboat. Here are some option:
From Sanur Beach
The speedboat to Nusa Penida leaves multiple times per day from Sanur (east Bali). In general, the boat takes 30 – 40 minutes depending on how wild the water is.
In addition, there are three operators that do speedboat transfers from Sanur Beach to Nusa Penida and back: Maruti Express, Angel’s Billabong Fast Cruise and Mola-Mola Express.
Because of there is no pier in Bali, get ready to be a bit wet. Overall, you have to get on the boat walking through the water. Besides, the boat staff will help you with your big pieces of luggage.
By Speedboat from Tanjung Benoa
Another option is to take a speedboat from Tanjung Benoa, which is closer to Nusa Dua. It is just slightly cheaper than the boats that leave from Sanur, but the downside is it only leaves on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. They also only have one timing per day. However, the boat condition looks to be a bit better than the Sanur boats we took.

Good to know before going on a Nusa Penida Trip
Overall, this place has become a very famous tourist attraction.
If you decide to go for a day trip which I personally do not recommend, since speedboat have the closest available departure time at 7:30am, you will arrive in Nusa Penida after 8am. Then you have to get a scooter or a car and you also have to get to the place you want to see first. For this reason all tourists arrive at these places after 9 am. And just then begin to create queues. Besides that, you end up in crowded places where after ten minutes of heat and queues waiting for a photo that everyone is taking in the same place you will give up. It’s really true that during the day these places are crowded. You need at least 2-3 days to visit all known places.
To sum up, I have been on this island for two weeks and I really enjoyed it. I also enjoyed every sunrise and sunset in these popular spots without tourists. If you also want to experience this epic places without too many people around, I suggest you head there at first light around 5am.
What are the roads like there?
Be careful, there will be some bumpy and narrow roads on Nusa Penida, although they are worth it for the scenery, if you are a very experienced driver exploring by motorbike is definitely the most beautiful way. But if you aren’t confident on a scooter this could be too heavy to handle.

Obviously, getting around by car is a lot safer and more comfortable with these roads. In addition to this, you can rent a driver for one or few days that takes you around the island.
Keep in mind: download offline Google Maps to always find your way back to your accommodation or to explore the island.
To conclude Penida Island is definitely worth a visit. I spent two weeks there and I don’t regret it.
